Mercury RX Capricorn + Sagittarius: Erin The Urban Mermaid

Our old frenemy Mercury has gone retrograde for the last time in 2023, this time beginning its journey in Capricorn, from December 13, 2023, to December 23, 2023, in Capricorn then shifting backward until January 1, 2024, in Sagittarius.

There is so much cosmic and karmic significance around this, let’s see what’s to come. . .

Just to play catch up about Mercury itself. . .Mercury is the tiny planet that tends to cause a lot of havoc when it goes retrograde, like a backward motion.

Mercury rules over the signs of Gemini and Virgo, and the 3rd (the “House of Communication”) and 6th (the “House of Health and Habits”) houses respectively. This can encompass many things from siblings, reading, our thought process and humor to daily routines, paperwork, short travel and small pets.

The most important thing for us to remember about planetary retrogrades, they aren’t purposely creating chaos in our lives, but asking us to…

and allow things to unfold or show us something that needs our attention

To brief you on Capricorn, he is the Father of the Zodiac, the 10th sign ruled by Lord Karma himself, Saturn. No bones about it, Capricorn is tough. Cappy is a Cardinal earth sign.

A solid, go-getter, motivated, rigid, old soul, successful, ball breaking, somber, sometimes boring, elegant, goal achiever who isn’t scared of a little hard work to get to success.
At the end of the day you gotta love Capricorn bc they want what’s best for everyone, even if they break you down while getting there!

And then we have the 9th sign of the Zodiac, Sagittarius. A mutable fire sign ruled by Big Daddy Jupiter.

On a good day, Sag is pretty easy to like- funny, wise, cultured, positive, energetic, well-traveled, down to try new things, bohemian, inspired, seeking expansion and growth and full of knowledge and stories.
On a not so good day? Judgmental, dogmatic, reckless, careless, prone to excess, preachy, noncommittal and way harsh with their words. :/ as a Sag – what can I say?

Firstly, when Mercury is Rx in Cap, things may feel very karmic. Lots of old BS that you thought you buried or worked through can resurface. It is very important these are addressed at this time in order to move forward.

The rigidity of Cap and Sag’s need for growth- while in RX- may show up as us feeling very stuck. We must trust if we aren’t moving at the pace we wish, that we are in the space and place we are because we are meant to be right there. You may feel more sluggish than usual as well.

Jobs and careers are at the forefront here. If you are wanting a change in this department or feel stuck where you are, take some time to reflect before you do anything rash like quit without a solid backup plan.

During the Rx period in Sag, you may not feel very inspired, just an overall feeling of blah or just not yourself. This is telling you to slow down and rest, trust what is meant for you will come in Divine Timing.

Astrology is perfect and makes no mistakes, so the fact that this Rx ends (sans the aftermath shadow period) on the first of the calendar new year of 2024 means we are really meant to go back and work through old stuff so we can start the new year off clear and open.
